Great Adventures into the Desert and the Markets with Day Trips from Marrakech

As far as Morocco tours go, there are few adventures that are as interesting and culturally fulfilling as the Essaouira day trip from Marrakech. Essaouira is a wonderful and charming little port on the North Atlantic coast of Morocco. The journey from Marrakech may take a little time but the entire drive takes place in an air-conditioned vehicle.

Once you arrive in the city of Essaouira, there are a multitude of things to do and see. It is essentially a resort and a port city which is in keeping with many time-old traditions. Hundreds of old brass cannons line the walls at the coastline and the strong offshore winds make this the perfect place to do a spot of windsurfing or wind-powered water sporting activities. Indeed, this is known across the region as the “Wind City of Africa” and the best time to visit is between April and November.

The market areas around the streets near the water’s edge are the most impressive you’ll see. There are lanes and lanes of small stalls selling powerful spices and traditional cloth. Art centres and galleries blend in superbly with boutiques, and there are plenty of opportunities to sit near the harbour area and watch the fishermen repair their nets for the next day’s catch. Many of the restaurants in Essaouira serve fresh fish caught on the day, should you get a chance to dine here for an hour or so.

Get Ready to Rock the Kasbah with a Day Trip from Marrakech to Ait Ben Haddou

Morocco tours are always full of adventure and a number of fascinating sights. Desert tours include trips out to the Berber camps and villages, day trips from Marrakech seem to be able to cover everywhere and for those who love a bit of shopping, there is the experience of the Kasbah. Ait Ben Haddou is truly inspiring and shows Moroccan architecture at its very best. The communal areas feature a main square, mosque and an area where grain is threshed in true Moroccan traditional style.

Most towns across the Saharan region of Africa have a Kasbah, but the one found at Ait Ben Haddou is perhaps the most impressive of them all. It is a World Heritage Site and can easily be reached as part of a package from the many day trips from Marrakech.
